Interior Design

Space planning, colour and material selection, lighting and the drawing skills needed to present a room scheme to a client — taught through real residential projects.

8 weeks Beginner to Intermediate Max 20 students 4.7 rating

Interior design is a craft with rules: proportion, circulation, light and material behaviour. This course teaches those rules first, then the software used to communicate them. You finish with a portfolio of complete room schemes, including mood boards, floor plans and 3D visuals.

What you will learn

By the end of this course you can:

Plan a room around circulation, proportion and function
Build colour schemes and material palettes that work together
Design lighting layers rather than a single ceiling light
Draw accurate floor plans and elevations in AutoCAD
Produce 3D visuals and renders in SketchUp
Present a scheme to a client with mood boards and costings

Questions about this course

No. Everything is done digitally in AutoCAD and SketchUp, both taught from zero in this course.

AutoCAD and SketchUp need a reasonably modern machine. Send us your laptop specification before enrolling and we will tell you honestly whether it will cope.

The course focuses on residential interiors, which is where most new designers get their first paid work. The principles transfer directly to small commercial spaces.

A portfolio containing floor plans, elevations, material boards and 3D renders for a complete residential scheme — enough to approach your first clients.
